Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has dissolved his entire cabinet with immediate effect, directing all political appointees to step aside and hand over to senior civil servants.
The announcement came in a brief statement released yesterday, catching many of his loyal supporters by surprise.
The governor ordered all Commissioners and Special Advisers affected by the decision to officially transfer their duties to the Permanent Secretaries or the most senior officers in their respective ministries.
In the statement, Fubara appreciated the outgoing officials for their service, describing their efforts as “immense contributions” to the state and his administration.
He also wished them well in their future pursuits, expressing gratitude for the roles they played in running the government.
This move signals a major shake-up in the executive arm of the Rivers State Government and opens the door for fresh appointments as the administration prepares for a new policy direction.
Observers believe the governor’s action may be linked to the recent peace agreement brokered for the third time by President Bola Tinubu, who urged all parties involved to embrace peace.
There are also unconfirmed reports that the cabinet dissolution may be aimed at creating room for more supporters of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mr. Nyesom Wike.
