Gunmen Abduct Six Travellers in Benue, Demand N100m Ransom

Gunmen on Tuesday morning kidnapped six travellers near Kula village along the badly damaged Naka–Makurdi road in Gwer West Local Government Area, Benue State.

Sources said the kidnappers contacted the victims’ families about two hours after the abduction, demanding N100 million for their release.

Eyewitnesses said the victims—three men and three women—were travelling in a convoy when armed men intercepted their vehicle in the early hours of Tuesday.

It was reported that four of the abducted were members of Ansaarudeen, who left Ilorin on Monday and reached Naka late at night. They reportedly spent the night there before continuing their journey around 5am, only to be attacked by the gunmen.

One of the victims’ husbands confirmed the abduction, saying the kidnappers contacted their families two hours after the attack and demanded N100 million. “They were six in number—three males and three females. Negotiations are ongoing on how to raise the money,” he said.

Gwer West LGA Chairman, Victor Ormin, also confirmed the incident to journalists in Makurdi, describing the victims as travellers who were attacked while moving in a convoy.

“It’s true, I have confirmed the abduction. I was told they left Naka around 5am before they ran into bandits who abducted some of them,” Ormin said, adding that it happened near Makurdi along the Naka–Makurdi road, though he could not immediately confirm the exact number of victims.
