Kogi Poly Lecturer Collapses, Dies While Teaching

A lecturer at Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, Mr. Anslem Ojodomo, has died after collapsing while teaching in class.

The polytechnic’s Rector confirmed the incident in a statement on Friday in Lokoja, issued by the Ag. Co-ordinator, Directorate of Public Relations, Mr. John Onimisi, describing the event as a “deep personal shock.”

The tragedy has shaken the institution, coming just a month after another lecturer, Dr. Barnabas Akuba, died shortly after completing his PhD program.

Ojodomo’s sudden death has caused fear and concern among staff and students, many of whom are questioning the circumstances of these unexpected losses.

Students who witnessed the incident told journalists on condition of anonymity that Ojodomo collapsed while teaching, and despite efforts to help him, he was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

The polytechnic community is now facing uncertainty, having lost two lecturers in such a short period.

Meanwhile, the Rector, Prof. Salihu Avidime, extended sincere condolences to Ojodomo’s family and the school community, noting that he was a lecturer in the Department of Public Administration.

Avidime recalled meeting Ojodomo just hours before his death, sharing greetings and a handshake.

The Rector described the late lecturer as hardworking, humble, and committed to excellence, someone who excelled both as a student and as a teacher.

“The Polytechnic community is mourning the loss of a promising academic and dependable colleague, who embodied scholarship, service, and character. Ojodomo’s contributions as Deputy Dean, Students Services, and lecturer are remembered as impactful and inspiring,” he said.

Anselm Victory Ojodomo (5th October 1992 – 27th March 2026) held a Master’s degree from Prince Abubakar Audu University, Anyigba, and had recently defended his PhD proposal.
