N117bn Misappropriated Under Tambuwal – Probe Panel

The Sokoto State government, yesterday, received a report from its judicial commission of inquiry, alleging that more than N117 billion was mismanaged during the eight-year administration of former Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal.

Justice Mu’azu Abdulkadir Pindiga (rtd), chairman of the commission, said while submitting the report that it also revealed breaches of existing laws, non-compliance with due process, and abuse of office under the former governor.

He stated that the commission uncovered widespread financial irregularities totaling over N117 billion, largely linked to violations of procurement rules, weak financial oversight, and misuse of executive powers.

According to him, the inquiry was established to carefully review the previous administration’s conduct through documented records and sworn testimonies, in line with constitutional requirements and public interest.

Justice Pindiga added that the report is divided into five sections, covering the background of the inquiry, testimonies received, detailed findings, recommendations, and a summary to guide government action.

He explained that the commission meticulously studied documents, contracts, and financial statements, while also hearing witnesses from relevant ministries, departments, agencies, and other stakeholders associated with the former administration.

The chairman praised commission members for their dedication, professionalism, and integrity, noting that the work was conducted without fear or favour.

Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto emphasized that the establishment of the panel was a constitutional duty, not a political attack.

He added that a committee would be formed to prepare a white paper based on the report, ensuring fairness and sincerity toward all parties implicated.
