Senator Adams Oshiomhole’s visit to the Aso Rock Villa to congratulate President Tinubu on Trump’s recognition of First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has raised serious concerns, particularly among Nigerians online, who believe it is an act of sycophancy.
Many X users described Oshiomhole’s congratulatory visit as a misplaced celebration, arguing that the country is grappling with serious issues such as insecurity, hunger, unemployment, poor healthcare, bad roads, power shortages, and unresolved killings, which they believe should command urgent attention.
Oshiomhole, in his comments, described the First Lady’s recognition by Trump as soft-power benefits for Nigeria’s image abroad, noting that global leaders recognizing Nigeria’s First Lady for her community leadership and faith-based work could help reshape international perceptions of the country.
However, many Nigerians insist that the recognition does not amount to a real achievement and that attention should instead be focused on addressing the serious issues confronting the nation.
