Nollywood actress Shan George has come under serious online attack after she slammed President Bola Tinubu’s plan to install 5,000 CCTV cameras in Plateau State.
The president made the announcement during his visit to the state on Thursday, following the Palm Sunday terrorist attack in Angwan Rukuba, Jos, which killed many people. He said the cameras would help security agents identify and track criminals in real time.
Reacting on Facebook, Shan George wrote, “Tinubu has ordered for 5000 CCTV cameras to be installed in plateau state (sic). State wey light no dey o. A very clueless, incompetent President.”

Her post sparked a flood of reactions online, with many Nigerians calling her out and explaining that CCTV cameras can run on solar power.
One commenter, Wandey Bimbo Adesola, said, “Shan, was that your level of understanding? CCTV is important to be installed everywhere, especially strategic places with solar powered.”
Another user, Ola Abass, added, “Who is more clueless between the person that doesn’t know that CCTV doesn’t need electricity to perform?”
Dafidi Omo Jesse also reacted, saying, “Shan George doesn’t know there are solar-powered CCTV camera. Now, I know fame and knowledge are not the same thing.”
Adewale Oluwaseyi chimed in, “It is very simple, knowledge is not a function of age. I leave it there.”
Gaji Jacob didn’t spare her either: “Now I understand why she no longer gets movie roles.”
Tina Lar pushed back on Shan’s claim about no electricity in Jos: “Who told you there is no light in Jos? Do you know I enjoy light in Jos more than Abuja or any other state I’ve visited?”
But not everyone disagreed with Shan. Nkollo Innocent Maduabuchukwu wrote, “How do you expect him to give them light when Aso Rock is on solar. Can he give them what he doesn’t have?”
Emma Chineduphantom also backed her, saying, “CCTV that the bandits will disconnect and vandalise in the night… It is well.”
Jane Jeresa JJ agreed too, pointing out that Nigeria doesn’t have the systems to make such tech work properly: the government was “acting as if it is in the western world, where everything is digitalised and law is executed against offenders.”
Shan George has starred in movies like the 2001 hit “Outkast” and the 2008 TV series “Super Story.”
