The sons of two late lawmakers in the Kano State House of Assembly have won the by-elections held on Saturday by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), taking over the seats their fathers once held.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates, Aminu Sa’ad Sa’ad and Aliyu Nabil Daneji, won the Ungogo and Kano Municipal constituencies, respectively, beating eight other contestants in the election.
The by-elections were organized to fill the seats left vacant after the deaths of Aminu Sa’ad of Ungogo and Sarki Aliyu Daneji of Kano Municipal, who reportedly passed away on the same day.
Announcing the Kano Municipal results, Returning Officer Prof. Ibrahim Tajo Siraj declared, “Aliyu Nabil Daneji is the winner,” after he scored 7,484 votes.
He defeated his closest rival, Shehu Ishaq Abdullahi of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), who got 105 votes, with other candidates far behind. The results were collated from all polling units in the constituency.
In Ungogo, Returning Officer Prof. Ali Tijjani Abdullahi said Aminu Sa’ad Sa’ad won with 8,975 votes, defeating Shua’ibu Hashimu of the Action Democratic Party (ADP), who scored 54 votes.
Prof. Abdullahi added that the election was peaceful and followed all electoral rules, praising political parties, security agents, and voters for their cooperation throughout the exercise.
