Tems Becomes First African Female Artiste with 7 Billboard Hot 100 Entries

Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, known professionally as Tems, has become the first African female artist to secure seven entries on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart.

This milestone follows the debut of her song “What You Need” at number 93 on this week’s Billboard Hot 100, pushing her total entries to seven.

With this feat, Tems now shares the record for the most Billboard Hot 100 entries among African artists, alongside Burna Boy and South African band Seether, each with seven songs.

In 2022, Tems made history as the first African artist to debut at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 with her collaboration with Future and Drake, “Wait For U.”

Tems is expected to break the tie with Burna Boy and Seether soon, as J. Cole’s “Bunce Road Blues” featuring her and Future is set to debut on the Billboard Hot 100 chart next week.
