Former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has revealed that there were plans to arrest his elder brother, Bashir El-Rufai, which led to his absence at the funeral and Firdau prayer for their late mother.
He made the disclosure during the third-day Firdau prayer for Hajiya Umma El-Rufai in Abuja on Monday.
The event drew family members, friends, and well-wishers who came to pay their respects as part of the Islamic burial rites.
“My elder brother Bashir El-Rufai couldn’t make it because we learned that there is a plan to arrest him because they believe if they get him, I will negotiate, that was why we ask him to stay in Cairo and I will be present,” El-Rufai said.
Following the development, Bashir El-Rufai stayed in Cairo, Egypt, as directed by the family.
El-Rufai added that the decision to keep him away was made before both the funeral and the Firdau prayer.
As a result, Bashir El-Rufai did not attend either of the ceremonies.
In recent weeks, Nasir El-Rufai has been engaged with various Nigerian anti-graft and security agencies over corruption and money laundering allegations.
