President Bola Tinubu has picked Mr Taiwo Oyedele as the new Minister of State for Finance, taking over from Dr Doris Anite-Uzoka.
The announcement came in a statement on Tuesday by Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy.
Tinubu also moved Anite-Uzoka to the Ministry of Budget and National Planning as Minister of State, marking her third ministerial role in his government.
In a formal letter to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Tinubu officially sent Oyedele’s nomination for Senate approval.
Before this nomination, Oyedele was Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, where he led a major revamp of Nigeria’s tax system.
Oyedele, 50, from Ikaram in Akoko, Ondo State, is an economist, accountant, and public policy expert with more than 20 years of professional experience.
He earned a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Accountancy and Finance from Yaba College of Technology and a BSc in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University.
He has also attended executive education programmes at the London School of Economics, Yale University, the Gordon Institute of Business Science, and Harvard Kennedy School.
Oyedele worked at PwC for 22 years, joining in 2001 and rising to Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader.
He now teaches as a professor at Babcock University and is a visiting scholar at Lagos Business School.
If the Senate confirms him, Oyedele will take charge as Minister of State for Finance, as the Tinubu government pushes ahead with fiscal reforms and economic management.
