Tinubu Fingers Peter Obi, Others Over 2027 Election

President Bola Tinubu yesterday reminded opposition figures and party supporters that “elections are not conducted on social media platforms. Nigerians conduct elections.”

He also called on Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, to reconcile with Governor Hyacinth Alia, stressing that unity is essential for Benue State.

At the same time, Tinubu rallied APC governors, federal lawmakers, and party leaders to deepen economic reforms and strengthen grassroots engagement. He said the administration is moving from economic stabilisation to full-scale growth acceleration in 2026.

Speaking through Vice President Kashim Shettima during the Progressive Governors’ Forum and Renewed Hope Ambassadors Strategic Summit at the Presidential Villa’s Old Banquet Hall, Tinubu emphasised APC unity as the party transitions to growth-focused policies.

Describing his government’s first phase as one of “difficult but necessary corrections,” Tinubu said reforms since 2023 have started restoring fiscal credibility and stabilising key economic indicators.

He highlighted easing inflationary pressures, improved fuel supply, and stronger naira fundamentals, crediting interventions from the Central Bank of Nigeria.

“Our economy is picking up. Major investment decisions across Africa increasingly favour Nigeria. That reflects renewed confidence in our direction,” he said.

Tinubu revealed that the proposed N58.18 trillion 2026 budget will signal a shift “from stabilisation to acceleration,” featuring record capital expenditure, the largest security allocation in Nigeria’s history, and tax reforms aimed at protecting vulnerable citizens while broadening the revenue base.

He stressed that success depends on public understanding, urging members of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors platform to take reform messages beyond conference halls into wards, markets, and campuses.

“This mission is about presence, truth and trust. Elections are conducted by Nigerians, not on social media platforms,” he said, calling on party faithful to counter misinformation with verified facts.
