Niger Delta activist Asari Dokubo has said the man seen in a viral video criticising President Bola Tinubu over the current economic hardship is actually his brother.
The video, which quickly circulated on social media, shows a man who bears a striking resemblance to Dokubo.
In the clip, the man dances and delivers a sermon, asking Tinubu to step down because of widespread hunger in the country.
He also complained about the rising prices of petrol and other goods, saying Nigerians “cannot continue living in this manner.”
Many social media users quickly assumed the man in the video was Dokubo, who is known as a strong supporter of the president.
Addressing the claims in a separate clip, Dokubo said people claiming he is the one in the video are just those who dislike him.
He clarified that the man is his “brother from Bayelsa state.”
“I’m not the one in the video. He is my brother, Theophilus. He is from Bayelsa state and I’m from Rivers state. He is from Nembe, while I’m from Kalabari,” he explained.
“But we are brothers. Very good brothers. Don’t mistake me for him.”
Dokubo added that Tinubu is still his friend and insisted that the president should be allowed to complete his second term.
