Nigerian comedian Seyi Law has stirred fresh reactions after saying the country is more secure now than it was 10 years ago. He made the remark on The Honest Bunch Podcast, where he also declared his open support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, saying the present government has achieved major progress in tackling insecurity.
When co-host Daddy Freeze asked if Nigeria is safer today compared to a decade ago, Seyi Law answered clearly, “Nigeria is safer now than 10 years ago.” He added that under Tinubu, more bandits have been taken out than in past governments, especially during the time of former President Goodluck Jonathan.
He also challenged critics by asking when last Nigerians heard of frequent bomb explosions across the country. According to him, the level of violence witnessed at the height of the Boko Haram crisis has reduced. But activist Zekeri, who was on the show with him, disagreed strongly.
Zekeri argued that the country is now more dangerous, pointing to recent attacks in the North-East, the increase in kidnappings, and the killing of senior military officers. He said many Nigerians now feel they have to protect themselves because of the security situation.
The discussion later shifted to politics. Zekeri threw his weight behind Peter Obi, saying his financial records are clear “down to every kobo.” In response, Seyi Law maintained that the economy is getting better under Tinubu and that the reforms being introduced, even if tough, are important.
Since the podcast aired, the debate has continued online, with Nigerians split over the claims about security and the state of the economy under the current administration.
