17 Killed in Easter Attack on Benue Community

At least 17 people have been killed after gunmen attacked Mbalom community in Gwer East Local Government Area of Benue State on Easter Sunday, residents say.

The attack is the latest in a string of violent incidents hitting rural communities in Benue, where suspected armed groups often strike without warning.

Witnesses said the attackers stormed the village, killed several residents, and set houses on fire.

So far, 17 bodies have been recovered, but many people are still missing as locals comb the nearby bushes for more victims.

Several homes and properties were also destroyed, leaving many survivors homeless.

A local resident, speaking on condition of anonymity, said: “This is heartbreaking. People were caught unawares. Many are still missing.”
