PHOTOS: Reactions As Kano LG Chair Shares Detergent At Empowerment Event

The Chairman of Kiru Local Government Area in Kano State, Abdullahi Saidu, has distributed detergents to 500 women in his constituency as part of an empowerment effort aimed at supporting household needs.

The detergents—Omo, Klin and Viva—were shared to beneficiaries from Yalwa ward in Kiru LGA.

He said the gesture was meant to support women at the grassroots and ease their domestic burdens.

The move comes as political activities increase ahead of future elections, with observers noting a rise in outreach programmes directed at women and vulnerable groups.

In a similar development, the House of Representatives member for Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency, Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa, recently distributed diapers to pregnant women in parts of the constituency.

Residents say these actions offer short-term relief to beneficiaries and also reflect early political engagement at community level.

Some stakeholders are calling for stronger empowerment programmes that can deliver long-term economic benefits for women in the area.

However, reactions have continued following the chairman’s detergent distribution.

A youth, Muhammad Aliyu Junaid, called on those close to the chairman to admonish him.

He said, “Someone should tell the chairman that grannies don’t need the detergent to wash their clothes… Mtseww!”

Auwal Nasir Abdullahi said, “Politics in Northern Nigeria is replete with shameful acts. Of what value is detergent. May All reward us with God-fearing leaders who will show us empathy.”

According to Fatihu Saeed, there is no justification for the empowerment and the show off thereof.

He said, “A whole chairman is showing off because he distributed detergent that would not be worth more than N1700. They are fast taking pictures of the women. This is embarrassing.”

Nura Lawan said, “It would have been better if our leaders decided to empower the citizens with something significant, instead of distributing detergent to a very few numbers of people. We only see this on the media”

Aminu Yaro Kiru said, “I was puzzled when I learned about detergent empowerment. Detergent is not one of the problems facing our households as it is not a food stuff. It is only used weekly. I am not convinced at all.”
