Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and top PDP bigwig, Nyesom Wike, has declared that the party’s internal crisis is finally over. He is now calling on former members to come back and help rebuild the PDP.
At a media briefing in Abuja on Friday, Wike compared politics to a football game, not a “fight to finish,” urging aggrieved politicians to drop their grudges for the sake of the party’s growth.
“As far as I’m concerned, the convention has come and gone. People are trooping in. I will say, the door is open. Yes, we have had a crisis. Now the crisis is over. Do we still have to shut our doors? No. Certainly not,” Wike said.
The ex-Rivers State governor revealed that several former members have already shown interest in returning, adding that the political space is now favourable for anyone serious about working for the PDP.
Wike also slammed the do-or-die attitude in Nigerian politics, saying it makes reconciliation harder. He described the party’s recent problems as misunderstandings, not permanent breaks.
“Politics is not a fight to finish. It’s like a game, like a football. If you see it as a do or die, it becomes difficult to reconcile. We have had our differences, but if you’re really sincere, there’s nothing left. We can do it together and move the party forward,” he added.
He further cautioned aspiring politicians that staying relevant comes from being visible and working hard, not just holding a title, hinting that those who sit on the sidelines might miss out in future party recognition.
The PDP has been trapped in a leadership tussle since 2025, with rival factions holding separate conventions and battling in court. Wike’s words now signal a clear push for unity as the party heads into the next elections.
