The shocking death of 22-year-old Afrofuji singer Afeez Adesina, better known as Destiny Boy, has taken a grim twist, as an autopsy report has now exposed the deadly reason behind his passing.
Daily Trust reports that Destiny Boy, who blended traditional Yoruba Fuji with modern Afrobeats, died on January 17, 2026, under circumstances that stirred widespread rumours and online reactions.
After his death, videos surfaced showing what looked like his body being moved to a mortuary, fuelling speculations about how he died. His family later said he had been struggling with a long-term health issue that caused seizures, and they had tried both medical and traditional treatments for him.
But the Ogun State Police Command confirmed that the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department carried out an autopsy. It found dangerous levels of tramadol and its metabolites, alongside methamphetamine, in Destiny Boy’s body. The report stated that he died from aspiration pneumonitis caused by these toxic substances.
DSP Babaseyi Oluseyi, the Police Public Relations Officer, told Daily Trust that one suspect has been arrested in connection with the case and investigations are still ongoing.
Destiny Boy started making waves in 2019 with his Fuji version of Davido’s If, and later covered hits by Tekno, 2Baba, 9ice, and Small Doctor. He also released original tracks such as Lamba, One Transaction, Gbese, Billion Dollar, Mio Gbonkankan, and Lowkey.
He and his partner, Iremide, welcomed their first child in November 2024.
The confirmation of toxic substances in his body finally ends months of speculation over the sudden loss of one of Nigeria’s fast-rising music stars.
