Presidency: 2027 Will Be My Last Attempt – Atiku Begs For Support

Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has said his expected run for Nigeria’s presidency in 2027 will be his final attempt to lead the country.

He made the comment in an exclusive interview with ARISE News, noting that he has contested for the top job several times in the past.

When asked if turning 80 by 2027 would raise the stakes for him, Atiku gave a clear response:

“Certainly yes, because the stakes are higher and I believe that will be my last outing,” Atiku had said while responding to one of the questions thrown at him.

The chieftain of the African Democratic Congress also said he remains deeply committed to Nigeria, but admitted that age and political realities mean 2027 would likely be his final shot at the presidency.

He stressed the need for unity within the opposition, calling on political leaders and stakeholders to put personal interests aside and work together to build a strong coalition that can challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress.

Atiku also raised concerns about the country’s current situation, pointing to economic hardship, insecurity, and governance problems as key reasons he believes experienced leadership is urgently needed.

He maintained that Nigeria needs bold reforms and policies that include more people if it is to fully develop and reach its potential.

Atiku, who served as vice president from 1999 to 2007, has remained a regular figure in Nigeria’s presidential contests over the years, making him one of the most familiar names in the country’s democratic politics.
