A chieftain of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), has called on former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar to join the party, warning that he may be blamed if the opposition fails to unite before the 2027 elections.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Galadima made it clear that the success of the ongoing coalition talks depends heavily on whether key players like Atiku come on board. He pointed out that momentum is already swinging toward a united opposition, with several major figures moving into the NDC.
“The truth of the matter is that Peter Obi and Kwankwaso migrated into the ADC; they brought unity of opposition to unseat Tinubu,” he said, adding that past efforts to bring the opposition together were disrupted.
Galadima urged Atiku to take the same step, saying unity is the only real path to challenge the current government.
“This is why I’m making this call on former vice president Atiku Abubakar to follow us as we followed him… such that there will be a unity of opposition to unseat this government,” Galadima said.
“If he refuses, Atiku will be held responsible for the collapse of the opposition ahead 2027”, he added.
He stressed that many key opposition figures are already gathering under the NDC, making it the main platform ahead of the next elections.
“The reality is that all the political gladiators are now in the NDC and any reluctance to join could weaken the coalition’s chances”, he warned.
Galadima also hinted that staying out of the alliance could affect Atiku’s chances in the 2027 presidential race.
