Health influencer Aproko Doctor urges cancer awareness after Alexx Ekubo’s reported death
Medical doctor and health influencer Egemba Chinonso Fidelis, known as Aproko Doctor, has used the news of Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo’s reported death from stage 4 cancer to press for greater attention to early cancer signs.
In a video shared on social media, Aproko Doctor warned that cancer can develop quietly and become difficult to treat when detected late. He recounted the story of a young schoolmate who only discovered he had stage 3 cancer after severe symptoms had already developed. The doctor said the man endured chemotherapy-related hair loss and profound weight loss while quietly suffering pain and treatment — and that people often mocked his appearance rather than recognising signs of illness.
Drawing on that example, Aproko Doctor highlighted four warning signs he says are frequently ignored:
– Persistent tiredness
– Unexplained weight loss
– Changes in physical appearance linked to illness
– Pain that refuses to go away
“If this guy had known the signs early enough—that he was always feeling tired, the unexplained weight loss, the pain that will not go away—maybe he would have gone to the hospital sooner,” Aproko Doctor said. In the video caption he described cancer as “a silent thief,” adding, “It’s hard to wrap our heads around the loss of a light like Alex Ekubo. It’s a reminder that this is a conversation we must continue to have.”
He urged viewers to act on symptoms: “If this video prompts even one person to check a symptom or schedule a screening, then the message has done its job. Please, watch this, and don’t forget to share it with everyone you know.”
The video drew responses from social media users. @Mavesempire wrote: “This loss of hair own dey shake me o Cox small combing wey I go dey comb my hair like this e go just dey break, dey cut, dey fly off all around.” @LatonaTemitope commented: “We just need to learn to be kind always and stop being mean to people even when you don’t know what they’re going through.” @BernieWanzie added: “Don’t ignore any signs and self medicate. We need to keep our health a priority.”

Separately, an old post by Alexx Ekubo resurfaced online after news of his death, in which the late actor had written about hoping cancer would one day become only a zodiac sign. Fans reacted emotionally to the post as they shared sympathy and sadness.
