Nasarawa speaker, two sitting house of reps members lost APC primaries

By Edwin Philip, Lafia

Big surprises in Nasarawa on Sunday night after APC primaries on May 16.

Announcing results, Hon. Musa Shuaibu Guri, chairman and returning officer for the House of Representatives primary election in Nasarawa State, said the exercise was delayed in places. “I am here to present the results based on federal constituencies, there was a little delay due to issues of terrain, and yesterday in some areas where there are some little security challenges, we cannot risk our staff to start going at night” he said.

In Kokona/Keffi/Karu, Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Dr. Danladi Jatau (Kokona West), lost to fellow lawmaker Daniel Oga Ogazi (Kokona East). Ogazi polled 13,083 to Jatau’s 5,873. Others: Mohammed Nurai Adamu 769, Mohamed Dikko 316, Joseph Kaura 1,429 and Mahra Musa 1,384.

Wamba/Akwanga/Nasarawa Eggon produced a shocker: Tony Bala Shammah romped home with 38,333 votes, while incumbent Hon. Jeremiah Umaru managed 4,061.

In Nasarawa/Toto, two-term Rep. Ari Mohamed Abdul-Mumin Muhammad scored 9,039 but was beaten by Mohammed Al-Bashir Yerima, who got 31,796.

Muhamed Ahmed Al-Makura, nephew of former governor Tanko Al-Makura, was returned elected by affirmation in Lafia/Obi with 45,000 votes after Isaac Ali Kigbu withdrew.

As at press time, results for Awe/Doma/Keana were not ready because the primary there did not take place on May 16.
