Suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP fighters have attacked four trailers carrying cattle near Kareto in Mobbar LGA, Borno State, stealing more than 100 cows.
The incident comes just two days after the insurgents set four trucks transporting beans from Monguno to Maiduguri on fire near Garin Kashim in Guzamala LGA.
Local and security sources said the attack happened around 1:25pm, shortly after the trailers left Damasak.
A source said the insurgents spent over an hour in the area, unloading the cows from the trucks and driving them into the bush.
“In fact, they waited for the other two trailers to arrive before setting the heads ablaze. Over a hundred cows have been stolen by the terrorists. The drivers were lucky, none of them was killed, they were on their way from Damasak to Maiduguri when the incident happened,” the source added.
One driver said the trucks left Damasak about 30 minutes apart, but the insurgents blocked the road until all four trailers arrived.
“Thank God, they did not kill us, but they burnt down our vehicles. I’m on my way to Maiduguri now,” he said, also complaining that the absence of security on the road makes such attacks frequent.
He called on security agencies to strengthen the route, as has been done on the Gwoza axis, where soldiers are stationed to prevent attacks.
