Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has congratulated President Bola Tinubu after his win at the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primary, saying the result proves party members still trust the president.
In a statement issued on Monday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, Sanwo-Olu called Tinubu’s victory well deserved and said it reflected the faith APC members across the country continue to place in him.
“I congratulate our leader and President, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, on his emergence as the presidential candidate of the APC for the 2027 election,” Sanwo-Olu said.
“This victory reflects the confidence and trust that party members across the country continue to place in his leadership and his commitment to building a better Nigeria.”
He also praised APC members, the National Working Committee (NWC) and state executives for a peaceful, well-organised primary. He welcomed the party’s move to direct primaries as proof of stronger internal democracy.
“The adoption of direct primaries also demonstrates our party’s commitment to strengthening internal democracy by giving members a stronger voice in the selection process,” he said.
Sanwo-Olu defended Tinubu’s economic reforms, saying the president had made tough but necessary choices.
“Over the last few years, President Tinubu has taken important decisions aimed at stabilising the economy and laying the foundation for long-term growth,” he said. “At critical moments, leadership requires courage and the willingness to take decisions that will move the country forward.”
He ended on a hopeful note. “The journey continues, and together, we will keep working towards a nation that gives every citizen a fair opportunity to succeed,” Sanwo-Olu added.
