Nollywood is grieving again. Veteran actor Patrick Okoye, known as Energy, reportedly died in the early hours of Thursday, May 28, 2026. The news first popped up on his official Instagram around 11:00 am with a short, emotional post that read: “Rest in peace legend .”
The death was later confirmed by Nnamdi Azikiwe University’s Theatre and Film Studies department. In a statement signed by the Head of Department, Dr Nkemakonam Aniukwu, the university said staff and students received the news with deep sadness. They called Okoye a vibrant soul, a respected Nollywood figure and an exceptional teacher whose influence went far beyond lectures. The statement added his passing left “a huge void among colleagues, students, and everyone privileged to know him,” and offered prayers for his family.
For years Patrick Okoye built a name in Nollywood with memorable roles. Off-screen, he taught and mentored young talents — many students saw him as more than a lecturer. His death comes weeks after the passing of actor Alexx Ekubo, adding to the industry’s pain.
