Gospel singer Yinka Alaseyori has said President Bola Tinubu and security agencies are working to secure the release of abducted schoolchildren and staff in Oyo State, but stressed that prayers are needed for their freedom.
In a viral video seen on Monday, Alaseyori urged Nigerians not to allow themselves to be drawn into politics over the incident. She said no one could claim that Tinubu and security forces were not making efforts to free the hostages.
“So many people are saying the prayers they are praying are not working. But believe me, the prayers are working. Don’t let anybody use you for any political whatever,” Ms Alaseyori said.
The singer added, “You cannot say that the president and vice president are not doing what they are supposed to do. They are working. Even the security personnel can be close to the location to rescue the abducted schoolchildren and be blinded by charms. That is the place of prayer.”
Alaseyori, who often appears at Lagos-sponsored events, also said, “Don’t let anybody control you. Don’t let anybody use you for anything. But right now, let’s pray for Nigeria. All we have to do is to pray for our country. Every individual needs to pray for these children. We all need prayers. You can’t blame one man that the lord placed in a position.”
About 46 students and staff from Oriire LGA in Oyo State have been held by terrorists since May 15. One of the abducted teachers, Michael Oyedokun, was beheaded as the kidnappers demanded a ransom.
