Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has alleged that some people are fueling insecurity in a bid to distract President Bola Tinubu.
Speaking at the flag-off of the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign for the local government elections in Edo South Senatorial District, Okpebholo said, “They can even kidnap all of us—yes, there is no vacancy in Aso Rock.”
The governor said insecurity had suddenly risen across the country and claimed it was being planned to damage President Tinubu’s image.
According to him, those behind the situation would not gain seats in the Senate, House of Representatives or the presidency, insisting there is no vacancy in Aso Rock.
“There is no vacancy in Aso Rock. What is happening today is the handiwork of the opposition.”
“They have failed. Have they not failed? Is it by kidnapping children? Then who are you going to govern? There will be nobody for you to govern. So let them give us peace so that we can rule well,” Okpebholo said.
He also said President Tinubu had achieved more for the country than previous leaders. He added that the effects of fuel subsidy removal could be seen in several projects across Edo State.
Okpebholo praised candidates who emerged from the party’s primary election ahead of the council polls. He said their victories would strengthen efforts to deliver the 2.5 million votes promised to Tinubu in the 2027 general election.
APC chairman Jarrett Tenebe described the party as the only viable political platform in the state. He urged candidates to take the governor’s development message across Edo and repeat the same progress in their local government areas.
NAN reports that the event’s highlight was the unveiling of the party’s Edo South candidates by the governor, including Ogbeide Ihama, Dr Paddy Iyamu and Omorede Igbinedion, among others.
