Afrobeats star Davido turned his FIFA World Cup countdown concert performance into a call for action on Wednesday as he appeared on stage wearing a customised outfit honouring pupils and teachers abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Ahead of his performance, the singer wore a black leather jacket decorated with green circular buttons carrying the names of the kidnapped students and teachers. The names of those still in captivity appeared in white, while those who died during the ordeal were written in red.
Davido also wore a white T-shirt boldly printed with “NIGERIA,” while “BRING THEM HOME” was displayed on the back of his jacket.
In a backstage video that has since gone viral, the singer used the moment to draw attention to Nigeria’s security challenges and called for urgent action to secure the victims’ release.
Speaking shortly before taking the stage, Davido expressed concern over the situation and appealed to both federal and state governments to speed up intervention efforts.
“Peace and love everywhere. May God be with the families of the abducted and the ones who have been killed,” Davido said.
“They still haven’t been rescued, we’re praying to God every day. We’re also praying to God that the government hastens, and you know… My country is going through a lot. We represent everywhere we go.”
