A Katsina woman, Hauwa’u Mukhtar, who was caught ferrying ammunition to a suspected bandit leader, has been sentenced to death by hanging.
Justice A. B. Bawale of the Federal High Court in Katsina handed down the sentence after finding Hauwa’u guilty on two counts: conspiracy to commit terrorism and aiding and abetting terrorist activities. The judge said the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt after reviewing evidence, exhibits, witness testimonies and counsel’s submissions.
Hauwa’u was arrested by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) on September 16, 2023, at Jibia Motor Park in Katsina State. Authorities say she was attempting to transport 438 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition to a suspected bandit leader named Ado, who is said to be operating from the Dunburum Forest in Zamfara State.
Found guilty on both counts, Hauwa’u was sentenced to death by hanging in line with the Katsina State Penal Code Law, 2021. She now faces execution over the terrorism-related offences.
