The NYSC has quietly stopped posting corps members to three Kebbi local government areas because of rising insecurity.
State Coordinator Bala Dabo Kagarko told reporters at the temporary NYSC Orientation Camp in Basura, Jega LGA that Augie, Arewa and Sakaba have been blacklisted. “For the safety of corps members, we are not posting them to Augie, Arewa, and Sakaba local government areas of the state again.”
He said the NYSC moved its camp from Dakingari to the Basura temporary camp in Jega over safety fears. Kagarko also warned that the number of corps members posted to Kebbi has fallen sharply. “We no longer have doctors to post to the state hospitals, not enough corps members to post to schools and other areas where they are needed to contribute to the development of the state. “Kebbi now has the least number of corps members in the country. Several appeals have been made to the right quarters, but we are yet to get their response.”
Hedlyne reports a surge in violent banditry and attacks in Kebbi after the emergence of the Lakurawa group.
Elsewhere, the NYSC suspended the 2026 Batch B Stream I orientation in Niger State while its camp is renovated after windstorm damage. Affected corps members were told fresh reporting details will be given at short notice.
