The Inspector‑General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has directed the Katsina State Police Command to intensify security around schools across the state to protect students, teachers and school buildings.
That order was handed down by the Deputy Inspector‑General of Police (DIG) in charge of Finance and Administration, Sulaiman Abdul, during a two‑day operational visit to Katsina State.
DIG Abdul said the police command must strengthen surveillance, step up patrols around schools, boost intelligence gathering and keep a visible security presence at educational institutions statewide. The move aims to deter crime, speed up emergency response and make schools safe places for learning.
As part of the assessment, DIG Abdul visited the Police Children School and the Government Girls Technical and Commercial College in Charanchi Local Government Area to review security arrangements and infrastructure. He checked perimeter fencing, entry and exit points, security posts and the deployment of police personnel assigned to protect the schools.
He also met school administrators and management teams to hear their concerns. The discussions looked at ways to improve school safety, deepen cooperation between education authorities and security agencies, and beef up preparedness for potential threats.
He urged school managers to tighten access control, stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity to security agencies. While reaffirming the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment, the DIG said the police are devoted to protecting schools so students and teachers can work without fear.
