President Bola Tinubu has approved a six-month extension for Nigeria Customs Service Comptroller‑General Adewale Adeniyi.
The extension takes effect after Adeniyi’s current tenure ends on August 1, 2026, and will run until February 2027. Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga said this in a statement on Friday, explaining the move is meant to help finish key work and manage leadership change.
“The six-month extension, which will expire in February 2027, is to enable him to consolidate the implementation of the National Single Window and ensure an orderly succession in the service,” the statement read.
The statement also said Adeniyi will work with the NCS Board to oversee promotions to the rank of Comptroller of Customs and to facilitate the compulsory retirement of officers who have reached 60 years of age or completed 35 years in service.
Adeniyi’s career has been long and steady. He joined the Nigeria Customs Service after graduating from Obafemi Awolowo University in the late 1980s and rose through the ranks: Deputy Comptroller in 2012, Comptroller in 2017, Assistant Comptroller‑General in 2020, Acting Deputy Comptroller‑General in January 2023, and then Comptroller‑General, appointed by President Tinubu in June 2023.
