FUOYE Suspends Two Students Over Ongoing Investigation into Ex-SUG President’s Private Video

The Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has suspended two students while it investigates claims they helped circulate private material about former SUG president James Iyanuoluwa Adio.

The move, announced in a statement signed by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Tajudeen Opoola, who is currently serving as Acting Vice Chancellor, names the students as Alao Iyanuoluwa Odunayo and Olawale Abiodun Samuel. They are being probed for alleged cyberbullying and publishing information about Adio’s private life.

Management said the suspensions take immediate effect as inquiries continue, stressing the need to protect the university’s reputation. The action follows the online spread of a private video allegedly linked to Adio that drew national attention. Unverified claims suggested the former student leader appeared under the influence in the footage; the authenticity of those claims has not been independently established.

Adio had earlier faced problems during his tenure — he was removed from office amid allegations of financial mismanagement and later suspended by the university. Those matters remain separate from the latest cyberbullying investigation.

The suspensions have sparked debate on campus. Several student groups and commentators argue the focus should be on whoever leaked the private content and have called for sanctions against those responsible for distributing it without consent. FUOYE has not said when the investigation will end.

Separately, FUOYE students have elected new SUG leaders. Mr Ajayi Olusegun Samuel is the new president; the online election had its collation centre at Ado-Ekiti, with Prof. Tajudeen Opoola and Prof. SPRIL serving as observers.
