Journalists and members of the public were stopped from entering the courtroom on Tuesday as former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, showed up at the Federal High Court in Kaduna for his alleged money laundering case.
The move limited media coverage of the trial, but authorities did not give any reason for blocking journalists from the court.
El-Rufai got to the court in a Hilux vehicle and was later escorted into the courtroom by security personnel.
A video circulating online showed the former governor wearing a green babanriga and a black cap.
He looked calm, smiling and waving to supporters gathered outside the court.
Security around the court was noticeably tightened.
