VIDEO: Fans Drag Angela Okorie After She Burns Outfit From Alexx Ekubo’s Burial

Nollywood actress and singer Angela Okorie is facing heavy backlash online after sharing a video of herself burning the clothes she wore to the burial of late actor Alexx Ekubo.

Ekubo, 40, was buried on June 18 in Arochukwu, Abia State, after battling metastatic kidney cancer.

In a video posted on her Instagram Story on Sunday, Okorie showed the outfit on fire and said she was following advice from a spiritual figure.

“This is the outfit I wore to Alex’s burial,” she wrote.

“My Godmother said it’s not good to have the cloth you wore to a burial around you, you burn them. So family and friends take note, I felt I should share this information, may the lord keep and bless us with long life, amen.”

The clip quickly spread to X, where many users accused her of “selective superstition” and seeking attention during a period of mourning.

“She kept the bag, shoes, wig and jewellery though. Selective burning,” wrote Ogechi (#missy_ada2).

Others questioned why items like her wig, sunglasses, jewellery and phone were not also destroyed.

Some critics said the post explained why Ekubo kept his private life away from public view.

“Now I know better why this guy keeps his health status and personal life away from social media and his colleagues,” wrote Martin-Rita (#MLAdebayo).

“If she burns it without anyone finding out, then that’s understandable, but burning it and coming online to announce it shows she is doing it for clout,” added #DwayneFranky.

Facebook users also criticised the practice, with some calling it impractical for people who regularly attend funerals.

A few, however, defended Okorie, saying burning funeral clothes is a cultural tradition in some parts of Nigeria, though they felt posting it online was unnecessary.

As of press time, Okorie had not responded to the criticism, while the video continued to fuel debate about privacy, boundaries and online behaviour in Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
