There was chaos at the Abuja Federal High Court on Monday when heavily armed operatives of the Department of State Services, DSS, took African Action Congress, AAC, presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore into custody after a remand order.
The incident happened shortly after Justice Mohammed Umar ordered that Sowore be sent to the Kuje Correctional Centre until Wednesday.
Video footage seen by Hedlyne from the courtroom showed DSS operatives, fully armed, taking control of the activist inside the court.
The move followed the judge’s decision to revoke Sowore’s bail. The ruling was linked to allegations from the DSS over public statements in which Sowore was said to have called President Bola Tinubu a criminal.
Earlier in the same sitting, Justice Umar also threw out an application in which Sowore asked the judge to withdraw from the case.
The defence had argued that the single court absence used as the basis for revoking bail was because Sowore was meeting his new lead counsel, Olumide-Fusika, SAN, who had already informed the court about the development.
