Terrorists Kidnap OPC Leader, Two Others During Ransom Delivery in Kwara

Confusion surrounds the abduction of an Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) chieftain, Comrade Bayo Fabiyi, and two others in Oko-Irese, Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.

Fabiyi was reportedly kidnapped alongside a driver and another associate while travelling to deliver ransom and other items for the release of a previously abducted victim.

Sources said the team was carrying about ₦30 million, five motorcycles and three bags of rice when armed men ambushed them in the area.

Information gathered showed that the ransom mission was part of efforts to secure the freedom of a victim who had earlier been kidnapped in the same community.

A source close to the incident claimed the kidnapped victim had already been killed by the abductors before the ransom team arrived, a fact those on the mission were unaware of.

The gunmen were said to have directed the team into a forest along a route connecting Kwara and Kogi states before seizing them at gunpoint.

It was also gathered that the OPC chieftain sought consultation before making the trip and was allegedly warned spiritually not to embark on the journey.

However, the warning was reportedly ignored.

A source said the incident was not immediately reported to security agencies.

When contacted, Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, said the command had not received any formal report of the alleged kidnapping involving an OPC member at the time of inquiry.

He added that the police would investigate the matter once an official report is made.
