Cristiano Ronaldo made more history in Houston on Tuesday, June 23, becoming the first man to score in six different World Cup campaigns when he found the net against Uzbekistan.
The 41-year-old Portugal captain opened the scoring in the sixth minute, converting a João Cancelo cross. That strike was Ronaldo’s ninth at World Cups since his 2006 debut and the 144th goal of his international career. He later added a second in the 39th minute.
Those goals mean he has now scored at every World Cup since 2006 — 2006, 2010, 2014, 2018, 2022 and 2026. At 41 years and 138 days, he is also the second-oldest scorer in World Cup history, behind Roger Milla, who was 42 years and 39 days when he scored for Cameroon against Russia in 1994.
Nuno Mendes and Rafael Leao also scored for Portugal, and Uzbekistan conceded an own goal, as Roberto Martinez’s side bounced back from a disappointing 1-1 draw with DR Congo last week.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner is chasing his first World Cup trophy, hoping to add football’s biggest prize to the Euro 2016 winner’s medal he already holds.
