The All Progressives Congress (APC) won five out of six Area Councils in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) during the weekend elections, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secured Gwagwalada. APC’s National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, said the results show Nigerians’ support for President Bola Tinubu’s ongoing reforms.
In a statement released on Sunday via his Special Adviser on Media and Communications Strategy, Abimbola Tooki, Yilwatda described the elections as proof of Nigerians’ confidence in the APC’s “Renewed Hope Agenda” and their belief that the administration’s reforms are guiding the country toward steady growth.
“The Abuja election, in particular, is a powerful statement by Nigerians from all walks of life that they stand firmly with President Tinubu and his bold reform agenda,” Yilwatda said, noting that the results reflect the party’s strength at the grassroots, unity, and resilience.
APC candidates won chairmanship seats in Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Kuje, Abaji, Bwari, and Kwali, while PDP captured Gwagwalada. Yilwatda said these victories show the party’s strong connection with Nigerians and highlight the vibrancy of the country’s democracy.
The party also celebrated the win of four State House of Assembly candidates in Kano and Rivers States, crediting the success to good party organization and public trust in APC leadership. He praised party members for their hard work and also acknowledged the professionalism of security agencies and election officials during the polls.
For Kuje Area Council, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared APC’s Danjuma Samuel Shekolo the winner with 17,269 votes, defeating PDP’s Danlami Zakoyi, who scored 15,824 votes. Other parties scored: ADC 7,016; APGA 4,305; AA 5; APM 58; NNPP 175; SDP 28; ADP 84; A Party 24; ZLP 6 votes.
Shekolo, reacting to his win, thanked INEC for a smooth election, appreciated his supporters, and promised to deliver the benefits of democracy to the people of Kuje.
“The message from the people is clear: they want results, accountability, and continued reforms in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda. The APC will not disappoint,” Yilwatda added.
APC’s wins in five councils confirm the party’s dominance in the FCT, while PDP’s lone victory in Gwagwalada shows that local politics in the nation’s capital remains competitive.
