2027: Kwankwaso, Obi to Join NDC — Kwankwasiyya

There’s fresh political movement brewing around Rabiu Kwankwaso, the former governor of Kano State. Word coming from the Kwankwasiyya camp is that he’s preparing to leave the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and switch over to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) as early as next week.

Speaking late Friday, Habibu Mohammed, spokesperson for the movement, told TheCable the move followed full agreement among key figures. He explained that talks with the NDC have gone far, with just a few small issues left to settle.

Mohammed also revealed that Kwankwaso is not making the move alone. He said Peter Obi, who ran for president in 2023 under the Labour Party (LP), is expected to join him. The planned switch could happen as soon as Monday or Tuesday.

“I believe him, Peter Obi, and some others will be joining the NDC,” Mohammed said.

Behind the scenes, serious talks have already taken place. Mohammed disclosed that representatives from all 44 local government areas in Kano gathered at Kwankwaso’s home around 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The aim was simple — weigh their options and decide the way forward.

By the end of that meeting, the decision was clear and united.

“The stakeholders have unanimously given him the go-ahead to move to the NDC,” he said.

As it stands, Kwankwaso is still in Kano but is expected back in Abuja by Sunday, just in time to finalise the move. All eyes are now on the early part of next week, when this political shake-up is likely to play out.
