#EndPoliceBrutality: Social Media On Fire Over Police Killing Of Handcuffed Delta Suspect

Anger has spread online after a Nigeria Police Force officer, Nuhu Usman, attached to the Delta State Police Command, was seen in a viral video shooting a handcuffed suspect dead.

In the footage, a man identified as Mene Ogidi had his hands tied behind his back as he begged for mercy, but Mr Usman shot him, a scene that has triggered widespread outrage.

Reports say the case started when firearms were found in a parcel Mr Ogidi was trying to send. During inspection, the package was opened and instead of a proper investigation, the officer allegedly shot him in public view.

Delta State Police spokesperson, Bright Edafe, confirmed the video is real. He said the incident happened in Effurun on April 26 and the officers involved were from the Area Command Effurun.

The Commissioner of Police condemned the killing, saying: “The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, has condemned in strong terms the extra-judicial killing of a suspect, one Mene Ogidi, aged 28 years, which occurred on 26th April 2026 in Effurun, Delta State.”

Edafe added that the suspect was allegedly caught trying to waybill a parcel containing a Beretta pistol and four rounds of ammunition. He said ASP Nuhu Usman violated Force Order 237 and standard police procedures by opening fire. The officer has been arrested and moved to Force Headquarters in Abuja for disciplinary action. The police also linked the act to “spiritual forces.”

Public reactions have been strong, with many referencing past police brutality cases and demanding accountability.

One user wrote, “Disheartening to see videos like this in 2026, what crime could this young Nigerian have committed ?? Even if he is an armed robber, a kidnapper or even a bandit, no law in Nigeria gives police men power to be both judge, jury and executioner shooting at a defenceless person. This is a crime against humanity. Those policemen should be called in for questioning.”

Another said, “These men are murderers. The police are not supposed to summarily execute suspects. We need to make sure this gets all the exposure and hold the police accountable. @TunjiDisu1 -The buck stops with you.”

A third user added, “Just see this barbarism. Armed animals suspected to be policemen from the Nigeria Police Force in Delta State tied up a man in broad daylight and shot him to death. No prosecution. No court trial. Just jungle justice by Nigerian police. WIlD ANIMALS.”
