President Bola Tinubu has described himself as a “very stubborn politician,” saying his political rivals are trying to use the issue of insecurity in the country to push him out of office.
Nigeria is expected to hold its next presidential election in January 2027, and Tinubu is widely expected to run again for a second term.
In recent times, insecurity has continued to worsen in different parts of the country. Armed groups, including terrorists and bandits, have been involved in attacks, killings, and kidnappings where victims are taken for ransom.
Opposition figures have repeatedly blamed the Tinubu-led government, saying it has not done enough to control the growing security crisis.
Tinubu made his remarks on Tuesday night at the Presidential Villa in Abuja while receiving a delegation from Plateau State led by Governor Caleb Mutfwang. He said he is not shaken by the criticism coming his way.
“You are playing to the hand of agents, including my own enemies, who want to use insecurity to get rid of me. But I’m a very stubborn politician. I just refuse to go. And I will campaign for my second term,” he said.
