135 Suspected Cultists Arrested in Lagos Police Raids

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested 135 suspected cultists and recovered 26 firearms during coordinated raids on criminal hideouts across the state.

The operation took place on Wednesday and involved Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, Tactical Commanders, and the Violent Crime Response Unit. It followed intelligence reports that rival cult groups were planning attacks during the July 7 cult anniversary and initiation period.

Police also recovered 16 dangerous weapons, including cutlasses, battle axes, daggers, and knives. Officers seized cult insignia, assorted charms, 11 bottles of alcoholic drinks, substances believed to be Indian hemp and other illegal drugs, as well as six mobile phones.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said in a statement that investigations are still ongoing to identify and arrest other members of the criminal gangs.

He added that all the suspects would be taken to court once investigations are completed.

The command restated its commitment to fighting cultism and other violent crimes. It also urged residents to stay alert and continue sharing useful information with security agencies to help improve public safety.
