2027 Elections: Buhari’s Former Minister Emerges ADC Governorship Candidate Amid Corruption, Fraud Trial

In a move that has people talking, former Attorney‑General Abubakar Malami is the African Democratic Congress’s governorship candidate for Kebbi State in the 2027 elections. The ADC officially affirmed his candidacy on Sunday.

The announcement comes while Malami faces trial by the EFCC over alleged corruption. Mohammed Bello Doka, Malami’s Special Assistant on Media, made the party picks public in a statement on May 24, 2026.

Doka named retired military officer Aminu Bande as the ADC senatorial candidate for Kebbi Central, retired Deputy Comptroller‑General Ibrahim Muhammad Mera for Kebbi North, and confirmed Garba Danjuma Limi for Kebbi South.

According to the statement, ADC leaders, stakeholders and supporters are confident in the party’s preparations for the next election cycle. Doka said the ADC remained committed to providing good governance, justice, security, and sustainable development for Kebbi State and Nigeria at large. He also called for unity and determination among party members and supporters. The former minister’s aide expressed optimism that the ADC would build “a more prosperous future for generations to come.

Separately, Atiku Abubakar urged the ADC to pick a competent, nationally appealing presidential candidate for 2027, stressing the need for experience to rescue Nigeria from economic collapse and institutional decay and warning against sentiment‑driven choices.
