Human rights activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore says his biggest challenge ahead of the 2027 general elections is the level of ignorance among many Nigerians.
Sowore made the remark during an interview on The Manifesto podcast hosted by Bukola Adebayo. The interview was recorded before his current detention at the Kuje Correctional Centre, and a clip was later shared on his verified Facebook page.
Asked who he sees as his main opponent in the next election, Sowore said ignorance remains the biggest obstacle.
He said Nigeria’s education system has been weakened over the years, leading to political views and attitudes that stop many citizens from fully understanding national issues.
According to him, many Nigerians do not think deeply about important issues and often fail to make informed political decisions.
Sowore also dismissed the idea that money is still the biggest factor in winning elections. He argued that many Nigerians now realise their lives depend on making better political choices.
However, he said poverty and poor political awareness still make it hard for many people to make informed decisions and stick with them.
The activist also blamed what he described as a weak education system, limited access to knowledge, and the influence of social media for promoting uninformed opinions.
He said social media often gives more attention to poorly informed views, making them seem more popular than they should be.
Sowore added that if Nigerians had better educational awareness and stronger critical thinking skills, such opinions would not dominate public debate.
