VIDEO: I’ll step aside if Peter Obi emerges ADC candidate — Atiku

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said he is ready to step aside for Peter Obi if the former Anambra State governor becomes the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

He made this known during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time on Wednesday, where he was asked directly if he would withdraw in Obi’s favour if Obi appears more popular.

Atiku responded clearly: “I will step aside for any winner,” including Obi, “if he is a contender.”

He also explained his position on how political decisions are made, saying, “Politics is either you go through democracy, or you go through consensus. What is there if he emerges through consensus or electoral processes?”

In the same interview, Atiku restated that the 2027 presidential election will be his final attempt to become Nigeria’s president.

He pushed back against concerns about his age, insisting that Nigeria’s main challenge is not age but leadership quality. He maintained that he has both the experience and vision needed to lead the country.

Atiku also used the moment to call for stronger and more structured leadership training for young Nigerians. According to him, the country must begin to deliberately groom a new generation of leaders who can take over in the future.

His comments come as political discussions around 2027 gradually build up, especially within opposition circles, where possible alliances and candidate choices are already drawing attention.
