Actor and politician Kenneth Okonkwo has released what he described as documentary evidence to back his corruption allegations against the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, and other Southeast party leaders.
Okonkwo maintained that aspirants were pressured to make illegal payments to secure tickets during the party’s primary elections.
His latest move comes after Obi’s legal team issued a pre-action warning, threatening a five-billion-naira defamation suit over claims Okonkwo made during an appearance on Channels Television’s “Sunrise Daily.”

During the interview, Okonkwo alleged that House of Representatives aspirants were forced to pay a 10 million Naira bribe while Obi oversaw the party.
In a series of tweets posted on Wednesday morning, Okonkwo brushed aside the legal threat and released details of private conversations with Obunike Ohaegbu, an NDC House of Representatives aspirant for the Nnewi North/South/Ekwusigo Federal Constituency.
While Ohaegbu later appeared to play down the allegations against the party in media interviews, Okonkwo insisted that the aspirant had privately identified Obi as the chief coordinator of the alleged extortion scheme.
