Lagos Uni Tells Students to Stay Inside as Bandits Reportedly Seen on Campus

Pan-Atlantic University (PAU), Lagos, on Tuesday night ordered students to stay indoors after suspected bandit-like men were reportedly seen on campus, triggering a major security operation involving several agencies.

In a late-night advisory, the university’s Student Council said it was working with the school management and security authorities to protect students while operatives carried out a full sweep of the campus.

“We are aware of the circulating concerns regarding reports of unauthorized individuals within the school premises,” the council said.

The council stated that the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigerian Army and Nigerian Navy had all been deployed.

“Campus authorities have been briefed and are managing the situation effectively. A comprehensive security deployment is currently active across the campus, featuring coordinated support from the Nigerian Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigerian Army, and the Nigerian Navy,” the statement said.

Students were directed to remain in their hostels until further notice.

“Please stay within your respective hostels and avoid moving around the campus until further notice. We will issue an official ‘all-clear’ notification once the area has been secured,” the advisory added.

The council also warned students they might hear gunfire during the operation.

“You may hear sounds of activity, including controlled discharges, as security forces conduct a thorough sweep of campus green areas. These actions are part of a coordinated security operation; please remain calm and do not be alarmed,” it said.

It further reassured students that armed personnel on campus were there for their safety and urged them to report suspicious activity immediately.
