How Tinubu, Shettima’s Trips Swallowed N194 Million In Just One Day

A review of Nigeria’s public payments portal, GovSpend, shows the State House shelled out about N194 million in one day for trips linked to President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima.

All the payments are dated April 30, 2026. Records show N79.4 million was paid for “Presidential trips and other related expenses” under the Office of the Vice President, Kashim Shettima. On the same day, the State House also paid an extra N15 million for “Presidential trips and others” under the Vice President’s office. Another N100.6 million was recorded for President Tinubu’s trips and related expenses. Together, those payments total approximately N194 million for presidential travel in a single day.

This follows earlier finding that the Presidency spent about N1.5 billion on air tickets in one day. GovSpend records show multiple payments on December 24, 2025, moved through State House sub-accounts and directly to travel agencies. The entries include N237 million and N134.4 million paid into a State House sub-account for air tickets; N226 million, N153.5 million and N136.5 million paid to Overland Travels and Tours Limited; N96.8 million to Travel Options Limited; plus further N239 million and N346 million entries into the same sub-account — all listed as air ticket purchases. Totals on that day add up to roughly N1.5 billion.
