Nafisat, the newlywed wife of Nigerian actor Akin Olaiya, has gone public with serious claims: she says she left the marriage because of domestic violence and mistreatment. In a viral video on Wednesday, she confirmed their split and said she walked away a few months into the marriage.
“Last few months, I left my marriage because I’m in pain, I’m mistreated. I feel like I did not matter. And nobody is going to stay in a marital home that goes with violence. All the things that they’re talking on social media about the divorce letter, yeah for real, me and my husband are not together anymore for like a long time ago, since last year. For those of you saying how can the wife just pack and leave when she’s not mad?. When there’s violence and something is really going on that you don’t really know about, and I’m expecting a lot from my ex-husband when I was with him because he’s older than me,” she stated.
Nafisat added she doesn’t want to air private details online — she only wanted to correct assumptions about her. “The age gap is much. Yet everything was going down, and I can never come out to disclose the main issues in my marriage with him. That is what I can never do on social media. But what I’m trying to let you know is that it does not make sense for him to say she just packed her things and left without any issues. It can’t be possible. You guys should just think about it and see if it makes sense,” she said.
