Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Public Communications, has given N50,000 each to 25 rescued schoolchildren from Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The 25 pupils are those who have been discharged from the hospital and reunited with their families. The remaining 14 pupils will also receive N50,000 each after they are medically cleared.
Mr Dare announced the donation on Tuesday during a visit to the families of the rescued children in Ibadan.
The donation came as some of the children returned home after receiving medical treatment following their rescue last Friday.
The emotional reunion saw parents hug their children with tears of joy and relief. They also thanked the government and the security agencies that took part in the rescue.
The rescued pupils and teachers were first received by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde at the Government House in Ibadan before they were reunited with their families.
The victims were abducted by terrorists from three schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State on May 15.
The incident prompted widespread protests by the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) and some human rights groups. They urged Messrs Makinde and Tinubu to ensure the victims were rescued safely and without delay.
The victims regained their freedom last Friday after spending 56 days in captivity.
Meanwhile, in a recent broadcast, Mr Makinde called on international organisations, including the United Nations, to investigate the abduction, identify the lapses that happened during the incident, and help prevent a repeat.
